Fireworks during events are pretty commonplace. After all, what better way to end an event or kick one off than with a dazzling display of fireworks? While these displays are indeed entertaining and amazing to behold, there are those who are severely affected by these loud events. We’re talking about our pets who are greatly affected by fireworks displays.

We might ooh and ahh at these displays, but our pets may be cowering in fear of these explosive noises. They have far more sensitive hearing compared to human beings, so these loud noises are more likely to affect them negatively.

While it might be impossible to have these fireworks displays stopped entirely, there are certain measures that you can take that can help your pets get through these events unscathed.

Small pets

Most people think of cats and dogs when it comes to protecting your pets from fireworks, but the truth is, all kinds of animals can get affected by these fireworks displays, including smaller animals. Small pets like rabbits, birds, and hamsters and more are easily spooked, so a fireworks display is not their ideal environment.

If there are fireworks being set off in your area, you can take a few measures to make sure that they don’t get stressed out by the noise. Make sure that you take their cages inside a quieter room, as far away from the display as possible. Cover their cages with a thin blanket to help block out the worst of the noise.

Common house pets

Cats and dogs get scared easily when fireworks are being set off in the vicinity. You can usually see them hiding somewhere like a table or chair just to avoid the noise. In order to help your pets from being stressed out by the events fireworks, you can take a few steps.

Like the smaller animals, make sure you take them somewhere quieter indoors. Minimize the impact of the noise by closing all doors and windows. This helps block out the noise. Designate a safe space for your pets. Make sure it’s comfortable by padding it out with blankets, pillows, and other soft materials.

Try not to leave your pets alone when you know there’s going to be a fireworks display at local events as this will only worsen their stress and anxiety. If they need to pace around, leave them be, don’t force them to do anything they don’t want to. You don’t want to make the traumatic event any worse for them.
