Plan ahead
The first step is to determine whether there is an audience for this. Do your friends want to play poker at your house? Are they comfortable bringing their own food and drinks or do they want someone to take care of those for them? You have to make sure you have all the things you need, plus the ambiance and the music. You can’t play poker when the room is too bright or too dark. There’s an ample amount of light that poker players need.
Know the game
As the host of the poker night, you should know the game inside and out. You have to make some rules while your friends are in your house. You have to establish boundaries. You have to make sure that there won’t be any cheating there, too, because that will create undue chaos and fighting among the group. As the de facto leader of the group for that night, please win a couple of rounds because it might be embarrassing for you.
Determine the intensity
How intense are your friends when it comes to poker? Do they fight over it? Is it just a friendly game? How much are you willing to be for this poker night? You have to clear these things ahead, so that you know what you’re expecting. Make sure to set the record straight when it comes to money. How much does each chip costs or do they cost at all? Is it all bragging rights?
