Tampa shopping can easily become an addiction because of how we use it to mask personal insecurities and problems. We use shopping so we can feel good about ourselves even if we have to face the daunting task of paying off those debts once the credit card statements arrive.

We use shopping to validate our own existence and our own place in the social world. We let others influence us and we let them dictate how we want to spend our hard-earned money.

Evaluate the reasons why you shop

What are you getting from shopping? Do you feel validated? Do you feel that your are compensated for a job well done or for simply sticking to your job even though you hate it? What are you trying to hide with shopping?

You have to evaluate the reasons why you do it and what your relationship to shopping is before you can determine the proper course of action to begin withdrawing from it. Remember that if you over-shop just because you want to feel good about yourself for the time being, that’s awfully short-lived.

Change your behavior

Instead of going to the store to “window shop” and end up with five bags of items after you are done, why don’t you just skip going to the mall? If you don’t want to be tempted, then don’t go there in the first place.

The reason why malls are such successes is because they appeal to our primary need to see beautiful things. They make us think we need these things and we can afford them (even though we cannot).

Find other things to fill the void

If you are Tampa shopping to fill the void of personal relationships, work problems, and insecurities, then you’re looking for a temporary relief. Find something that would give you joy for an extended period of time. Find something that would benefit you in the long days ahead of you. Whether it’s going to the gym or starting a new hobby, we are sure these are worthy of your time.

Focus on the guilt

When you cannot fight the urge to shop, just focus on the guilt you will feel afterward. Even if you think that you can afford to buy an item, you know that after giving the cashier your credit card and seeing the purchase go through that you did something wrong. Focus on how you are going to feel after the purchase has been done, so you don’t have to make it in the first place.
