marketThere are a lot of things we love about Lakeland, but none probably can eclipse whenever Lakeland farmers markets are upon us. These farmer’s markets are surefire talk-of-the-town since we’re always on the lookout of what’s new in Lakeland and what we can get our hands on.

On July 30, the Downtown Farmers Curb Market will begin at 8 a.m. and will last up to 2 p.m. This event is a key activity in the ever vibrant and diverse Downtown Lakeland. It is primarily designed to bring together people in the community for a morning of fresh produce, plants, and local handcrafted items. This is the best place for local artists to showcase their talents.

Many times, these farmers’ markets also invite local musicians to perform while customers choose from the freshest produce in all of Lakeland.

Here are some tips about how to enjoy going to a farmer’s market:

Know what’s in season

You have to be familiar what grows in your area and what will be featured in the market. That way, it will make it easier for you to make your decision once you visit each stall. It will also prevent you from buying stuff you don’t actually need or have use for.

Either go early or go very late

Try to make out your farmer’s market’s personality. Most markets tend to be less crowded during the opening hours and the closing hours. There is an exception, of course, but does your market fall under that exception? If you want the best selection, go to the market early since the best produce are probably sold first.

But if you’re looking for the best deals, then go to the market before closing hours. Chances are, the sellers want to get rid of some of their products to be able to go home. They can give big discounts if this is the case.

Bring big bags and change

You surely don’t want your purchases spilling on the sidelines, right? Although the vendors usually have plastic or paper bags for their products, these tend to be flimsy and very thin ones. If your purchases tend to be heavy, there is a good chance these bags will break even before you reach your car.

Bring small change, too. Vendors will make change, of course, but purchases are easier when you have the exact change, down to the nickels and dimes.
