Not all of us are born with a silver spoon, so we’re relegated to watching the rich and the famous buy clothes, shoes, accessories, gadgets, etc. endlessly. We see it all the time on our social media feeds and though we envy the power to purchase anything you want, we also have to be smart about the way we use our money and our credit cards for purchases in Tampa shopping.

When there are coupons involved

Coupons are the greatest marketing strategy ever! It benefits the manufacturers and it allows us, mere mortals, to be able to afford groceries, clothes, and accessories we would have otherwise just forgotten about. It’s a great feeling in the world to buy a handbag for 20% less because of a coupon.

We know, we know. We should save money for the future, but a little bit of a splurge wouldn’t hurt, right? Be wary about using coupons with a lot of exceptions, though. You certainly don’t want to be forced to pay for an amount you’re not ready to.

When the rewards are great

Your credit cards have a reward system, especially if they are linked to certain companies and retailers. For example, one credit card can give you rebates and extra points if you shop at Macy’s. Another could give you a 40-percent discount if you dine in a partner hotel.

The key is to always read the promotional materials they send to your email or phone number. These materials would give you a good sense of how much you can save by using your credit card (and of course, paying them on time).

When the interest rates are low

Check the interest rates of your credit cards. Most cards have the same interest charges, but they differ when it comes to shopping in certain retailers. The links between credit card companies and retailers are tough to understand, but we do know that it benefits them greatly and in a way, us, too. Use only your credit cards if the rates are reasonable and not over-the-top.

When you can afford it

Finally, if you cannot afford to pay for your purchases on the next credit card cut-off and due date, you probably should not be using your cards for Tampa shopping. Yes, retail therapy is good but you will be more stressed out knowing that your debt has ballooned because of your shopping activities. So, unless you have the budget for it, you might have to stay clear of malls for the meantime.
