You know what the holiday means? Well, aside from the endless food from various events, it’s all about cleaning your house and preparing it to welcome the new year.

There’s something cleansing about finding time to clean and organize everything in your home. It feels like we’re cleansing ourselves of the bad things that happen the past year in preparation of the new blessings that will come our way in the hopefully brighter future.

But cleaning the house is more than soul-soothing. It’s literally beneficial for us as a person. Here are the benefits of holiday cleaning:

Throwing away trash

Most of the things you keep in your garage, your storage area, your basement, and your attic are trash. Trust us.

Holiday cleaning means a chance to re-organize these things and throw away things you absolutely don’t need anymore. Put things you want to keep in one pile and make another pile for things that you want to throw away.

In fact, you can even make a profit out of your old things. Simply hold a garage sale and try to sell everything you don’t need anymore. Who knows what someone can make from that piece of junk you have in your attic, huh?

Rekindling memories and rediscovering things

Make sure that you will have the whole day to go through your old stuff because there will be a lot of pauses and stops since you’re going to remember things when you see your old cheer uniform or an old textbook from high school. You might even find some treasured items like a slambook or photos from your elementary days.

It would be fun to reminisce through your old stuff so bring your sibling or even your parents for your holiday cleaning. We’re sure they’ll love to see you finally get organized and who knows what kind of memories those old things will evoke?

Eliminating allergy triggers

Did you notice that you recently developed some sort of allergy and you keep on sneezing and coughing? Maybe there is something that triggers your allergy.

You may be surprised to know that our homes can be as polluted as the road we take going to work because of all the junk we keep and neglect to clean. If you have a TV stand in your living room, we bet there are photo frames and little trinkets from your travels on it.

How many times have you cleaned it in the past year? Cleaning isn’t just for aesthetic purposes. It actually really cleans your house in the literal sense which removes your allergens and any triggers your house might have.
