Rarely are people able to bargain well with vendors and that’s because most of them are afraid to come off as cheap. Bargaining with vendors or negotiating the prices of the items happens all the time. These vendors themselves haggle with their suppliers. They know that Tampa shopping involves dealing with a lot of customers who want the prices of the items slashed down by almost 50 percent.

While there is no exact formula to negotiating with vendors about the prices of the items, you can follow certain rules when trying to break down the resolve of these vendors to sell the items at a cost they want.

Determine if bargaining is appropriate

Bargaining is only appropriate in stalls outside a formal store or mall. Certainly, bargaining cannot be done in malls where prices are set in stone. Sure, you can ask for a discount when the item is a bit damaged or when they are selling the last piece to you, but these are just about the situations that bargaining is allowed inside malls and stores. Haggling with vendors often happen in a flea market or weekend market. Here, vendors have more control over how much they should be paid for a particular item. It also works when you’re shopping for souvenirs overseas.

Shop around

Shop around first and see what others are paying for the items you want. You can check out some stalks and shops first if they are selling the same items for less or more of the price of the original vendor. You can use the information you get from other stores as basis to your bargaining convo with the original vendor. Besides, if the items are cheaper in other stores, why not haggle there since the base price is lower already?

Ask for a deal on multiple items

If you cannot get the deal you want for a single item, perhaps the vendor is more willing to negotiate with you if you’re buying multiple items from his shop. Browse through the items he’s selling because there might be more items you’re willing to buy. This will give you an upper hand when you try your hand at bargaining.

Leave if the price is too much

If the price is set in stone and if the vendor does not want to give you a good or fair deal, then leave the item. No item is worth your money if you think it should be valued lower. You will only feel bad about buying it for a price you don’t think is fair.
