StPetersburgPreservation_DTSP-5-2There seems to be something in Lakeland shopping that seduces its consumers. As much as we want to understand what it is, the influence will always remain a mystery to us. Whether it’s the creative marketing strategies we see everywhere or our own insatiability, we can’t quite put our finger on it.

Don’t be seduced by the store

Stores use lighting, sounds, and even aromas to entice you to buy something. Malls use loud music to make you use your credit card while hotels and spas use lavender and minty aromas to make you want to purchase another service from them. Jewelry stores, on the other hand, use lights to make watches and jewelries sparkle more. If you can help it, don’t stay too long in stores, so these won’t affect you.

Remember the details

When you’re out doing your grocery, you probably know how much you’re going to spend on a can of corned beef. When you see it on the aisle and pick it up, did you notice that the can was smaller and thinner? This allows manufacturer to keep the same price but profit more because the quantity is definitely smaller.

Know yourself

There are basically two types of consumers: one, the person who buys according to what he/she wants regardless of what society dictates; and two, the person who tries to fit in through his/her purchases. It’s always better to buy what you want regardless of what’s the current trend. If you stick to your preferences as a shopper, you’ll probably be way wiser and smarter than other shoppers.

Beware of freebies

Who doesn’t want freebies and discounts? But if you’re not really an “expert” on this, try and stop for a while before agreeing to the salesperson. If you’re going to get a $10 freebie for a $50 purchase, where’s the fun in that? People easily fall for freebies and discounts because of the terms used. After all, who would ever say no to a gift certificate, right? As a wise shopper, think about the consequences of that freebie. You’re going to get a $10 gift certificate for a purchase of something you don’t want in the first place?

Choose your shopping partner

Be careful about who you spend your Lakeland shopping day with. If you have a friend who’s good with money, you may want to tag her along because she can advise you on what to buy and what not to buy. If you go with a group of friends, you may end up buying something you don’t need because the group consensus would always push you to “go for it.”
