If you are part of the millennial generation, then you are well aware that the tide is shifting: this generation is doing their Tampa shopping more online than in brick-and-mortar stores. They are going to the mall, yes, but not to shop.

They are more or less there to meet with friends, try new restaurants, or visit some obscure artisanal store that promotes eco-friendly and responsibly-produced items. Millennials are all about experiences and unfortunately, they don’t see shopping in malls as an important experience to post on their Facebook and Instagram feeds.

And so here we are. Online shopping is a never-ending process but you can be a smarter online shopper if you follow these tips:

Compare, compare, compare

Compare prices, products, manufacturers, shipping fees, handling fees, taxes, response rate, etc. Compare every little factor so you are sure you’re making the best decision to purchase from a particular online store.

Many online shops offer the same products sourced from the same manufacturer. The only differences are the “brand” name, the shipping fees, the prices, and the responsiveness of the seller to your questions.

Look for coupons

Your credit card points can be used to purchase items online. Just ask for a coupon code from the credit card company.

If you have signed up for a newsletter from a particular online store, it should be regularly sending you coupon codes that you can use for a discount on certain items. Do not be lazy to look for coupon codes because this is when you outsmart the store.

Prefer free shipping always

If an online store is offering free shipping, grab that opportunity. Put as many items as you want to buy in your cart and avail of the free shipping option.

Remember that the reason why some people are still adamant against online shopping is the shipping cost. They don’t think it’s reasonable to have to pay for the shipping of the items when they are already paying the full price for the products.

Check the security certificates

There are many ways to check if a website is secure but there are two easy and obvious ways to do so: check if the address is using https:// and if there’s a lock icon beside on the address bar. These two things should indicate that you are in a secure network and it’s safe to pay with your credit or debit card.

Support local brands

Lastly, if you can and if you find good pieces from them, try to support local brands, small entrepreneurs, home-based businesses, etc. These people are the backbone of our economy. By purchasing directly from them, you are helping a household survive or a fledgling business to thrive.
